There are many katchi abadis in Hyderabad from that 99 katchi abadis had been identified in the district, which included 54 in taluka city,39 in taluka Latifabad and three each in Qasimabad and Hyderabad rural talukas.
All the people who are living in katchi abadis they mainly live in the houses that are made of bricks, clay or mud. In their houses there are almost two or three rooms. All the families live together in joint way because the poor people cannot afford more than one houses.
Deficiency of facilities are very much present there, neither gas, nor clean water and even electricity is not present in some katchi abadis. Heap of garbage has also been seen there, their children also plays games on that dirty place and become sick but government does not survey at all.
Some people of katchi abadis are very poor that they have not even the houses of mud and bricks. They live in tents (Jhuggis). Sometimes it happens fire spread out in jhuggis due to which there are many loss of lives emerged and by dint of this fire majority of children become scorch and died, some where it happens that poor people become homeless. Government does not take any action regarding this sorrowful situation because these people have not any status in society therefore no response of government appeared. They themselves start leading their lives and construct their jhuggis again.
Poverty, being the main hindrance in rural development, causes many social problems as well infect, it has made the rural society both rigid and iniquitous. Crimes like theft, robbery, kidnapping are actually the outcome of poverty in the society. Most of the intellectuals in Pakistan are agreed on the maxim that poverty is the worst course for any society. This is the poverty that make the people of the society do illegal activities. If one has no food for himself and his family, no cloth for himself and his family, no health care facilities, no respect in his society then how can we expect that he will observe all the moral as well as legal Laws of his society and his country. So, poverty is the mother of all the challenges of rural development. The sole solution to tackle these challenges is justice and equal distribution of country’s resources among the people. If we cannot do so, this will be so ferocious thing that we could not repent in future.
Unemployment is another challenge in the rural development of Pakistan. This is a serious social problem. It hinders the smooth running of a country. Revolt among the masses against the government had always been exercised mainly because of unemployment. It can cause intractable social problems and massive corruption. Therefore it should be tackle before it paralyses the whole structure of society. In Pakistan the challenge of unemployment is so fierce that it seems that this will wash away all the efforts being done for the development of rural areas.
Further, rural households with low income do not have enough saving capacity due to their low incomes to enable adequate capital formation for raising the productivity of both land and labor and there by optimizing their potential. Mass migration from rural areas to cities will lead an increase in katchi abadis or unplanned settlement in all of Pakistan cities.
Why is it so hard to accept the facts? First go and check these katchi abadis. You cannot find a solution unless you accept that there is a problem. Many of these katchi abadis are illegal and have poor facilities. No clean water and sewerage, infact some of these are next to sewerage nalas. So what do you expect, healthy atmosphere? Do your poverty and police corruption easily find gambling and drugs dens there.
Government must take the serious decision and must act on these attempts, so that the lives of people will be better and condition would be better of our country and then our country will progress n good manner.
